A primitive form of the blog existed back in the early 1980's in the form of newsgroups. These newsgroups were about a variety of topics and moderated by an individual.
Readers of newsgroups would post comment on the topic at hand. There were essentially simply moderated discussions forums which do stil exist on the internet today.
